CAMPO KUMEYAAY DONATE TO MOUNTAIN EMPIRE UNIFIED
SCHOOL DISTRICT CANDIDATES

Campo Kumeyaay Nation makes contribution of $5,600 to H.O.P.E. Candidates

Campo, California – As Election Day nears, candidates running for several positions in the Mountain Empire region have become busy meeting with various organizations and constituents to discuss issues and their political platforms.

On September 12, 2006, the Campo Kumeyaay Nation (CKN) met with school board candidates running for the Mountain Empire Unified School District.  The meeting gave the opportunity to allow the Tribal leadership to express their concerns and questions about each candidate’s plan to improve education issues in the Mountain Empire region.  A majority of Campo Kumeyaay children attend schools in the Mountain Empire district.

Subsequently, the Campo Kumeyaay Executive Committee made a decision to contribute $5,600 to the H.O.P.E. School Board candidates as they felt that this group of individuals would best represent and benefit the Mountain Empire Unified School District and the children of the over 200 Reservation families in the District.

The Tribe’s contribution will assist in the campaign efforts of Danny Nunez, Mountain Empire Unified Area No. 5; Kenneth Northcote, Mountain Empire Unified Area No.3; Beryl Buchanan, Mountain Empire Unified Area No. 4; and Ralph Davis for Mountain Empire Unified Area No. 1.

The Executive Committee is also meeting with candidates running for Boulevard and Campo Planning Boards but has not made any final decisions on who to support at this time.
